Children In Out of Work Benefit Households

29 November 2017

This dataset for 2016 was released by the Department for Work & Pensions today, following their work amending the methodology to include Universal Credit.   Another welcome change is that the small area data is now available for LSOA 2011 boundaries.

The data can be found in various different places on Northamptonshire Analysis in the Children Living In Out of Work Benefit Households dataview and is available by age band.

In all of the county's boroughs and districts (and nationally) the number and percentage of Children aged 0-15 Living in Out of Work Benefit Households continues to decrease.   In 2016 this was the case for all instances of age band x district except for 11-15 year olds in Daventry and 16-18 year olds in Wellingborough where there were increases and three instances which remained the same.

Across England as a whole the percentage of Children aged 0-15 living in OOWB Households in 2016 was 14.0%. Wellingborough with 14.9% and Corby with 15.8% both log above this average.   However, amongst Northamptonshire's LSOA small area geographies, three register a rate of over 40%. These are :
....   Northampton 011A : Bellinge : Fieldmill Road area, Billing Aquadrome.
....   Corby 006G : Kingswood : Dunedin Road, Vancouver Close, Kenilworth.
....   Kettering 005D : Kettering : Kathleen Drive, Washington Square area.
A further 16 LSOAs in Northamptonshire show 0-15 year old rates of 30% and over.
