Breast Feeding at 6-8 Week Check

30 November 2017

Please see the Breast Feeding at 6-8 Week Check dataview for the 2016-17 data at County, Region and National level. This data is no longer provided at District level within the national spreadsheet.

Northamptonshire didn't quite pass the final validation criteria of having 95% of the expected data in place, so please be aware that the percentages calculated in Northamptonshire Analysis for 2016-17 are not official and should be treated with caution as there were 840 infants across the county for whom the breast feeding code was not logged.

That notwithstanding .... in 2016-17,   43.3% of infants in Northamptonshire were either fully or partially breast fed at the time of the 6-8 week check. This is a slight dip on the previous year and slightly below the national average (44.4%).   Across England as a whole, looking at authorities which have passed all their validation checks, rates range from 75% in Lewisham (London), followed by five authorities logging over 60% (4 in the South East and 1 in Yorks&Humber), down to two authorities in the North West with a totally or partially breast fed rate of 22%.
